Day 1 - Departure
Depart your home city for Italy.

Day 2 - Rome
Welcome to the magical city of Rome, the capital of Italy. Upon arrival, your tour representative will meet
you and assist you with the transfer to the hotel. On the way enjoy your first views of a mixture of architectural
styles including Baroque, Gothic and Renaissance. After check in and time to freshen up meet your
Learning Through Travel guide for a walking tour of the city. See the Baroque Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon,
the best preserved building of ancient Rome and the famous Spanish steps, which are a favorite gathering
place for tourists. Enjoy a welcome dinner with wine this evening at a restaurant in the city. 

Day 3 - Rome/Pompeii/Sorrento
Depart Rome this morning driving through villages and picturesque landscapes.  Visit Pompeii the site where Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried Pompeii in 79AD. Afterwards stop at Positano, one of the most picturesque town along the coast, the view is spectacular!  Arrive in Sorrento and take a orientation tour of the city. 

Day 4 - Sorrento/Capri/Peruggia
This morning board a hydrofoil to Capri, one of the most beautiful Islands in the world.  You can appreciate, why 2000 years ago the Emperors fell in love with the mountains, sea caverns and grottoes and built their villages here.  Visit the beautiful "Grotta Azzurra" Blue Grotto. Return to Sorrento and drive north to Perugia, famous for the chocolate covered hazelnut candy "Baci", the city has a strong artistic and cultural history.

Day 5 - Perugia/Verona/Venice
After breakfast depart Perugia for Venice. On the way, see the romantic town of Verona, known as "piccolo Roma" (little Rome). Shakespeare based the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet on it. Entrance is included to Juliet's house and Scrovehni Chapel. Continue to Venice, a city filled with art, gondolas, canals and bridges. This evening enjoy your dinner at the hotel.

Day 6 - Venice
This morning begin a canal boat cruise to St. Mark's Square, to see Doge's Palace and the Piazza San Marco. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. You might like to visit the Academia Gallery where the enigmatic Tempest by the Renaissance painter Giorgione is displayed along with other masterpieces by Tintoretto, Veronese, and Tiepolo. Visit a Mirano glassblower, take a ride on the Grand Canal or do some shopping.

Day 7 - Venice/Florence
After breakfast depart Venice for the "city of flowers" Florence, situated on the banks of the Arno River and set among rolling hills full of olive groves and vineyards.  Known as the Cradle of the Renaissance and home of Dante, Machiavelli, Michelangelo and Medici, the city is a wealth of art. Enjoy a half-day of sightseeing including the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Brunelleschi's famous dome dominates the skyline of the city. Building of the cathedral began in 1296 by the Sienese architect Arnolfo di Cambio Giotto, and it took 150 years to complete. The dome is decorated with frescoes by Donatello, Andrea del Castagno and a few other Italian artists. The remainder of the day is at your leisure or you may join an optional tour to visit the Gallery Academia. Although there are many great works in the Academy, the main attraction is the magnificent sculpture of David by Michelangelo, carved from one piece of marble, a stunning, unforgettable piece of art.

Day 8 - Florence
Today is at your leisure; enjoy shopping at the small store selling handcrafted leather goods and jewelry. This evening you may join an optional dinner excursion to a winery in Chiantic.

Day 9 - Florence/Siena/Rome
This morning, depart Florence driving through Tuscany to Rome.  On the way visit Siena, a fortified city filled with majestic Gothic buildings including the Palazzo Public, Town Hall.  The Piazza del Campo is the heart of the city and leads to many wonderful sites including the Duomo. Arrive back in Rome where you will have the evening at your leisure.  

Day 10 – Rome
Today you see the Forum, a complex of basilicas and temples and the commercial, political and religious center of ancient Rome. Continue to the Coliseum, a famous structure able to hold 80,000 spectators’ and the site for many gladiator fights. Visit the St. Peter's Basilica the largest, most famous and magnificent basilica in the world, originally built where the Apostle Peter was believed to have been buried. See the works of art, including Michelangelo's "Pieta" sculpted at age 25 and the only work bearing his signature. This afternoon is at your leisure or you may join an optional tour to visit the Sistine Chapel, where you see Michelangelo's frescoes of the Creation on a vaulted ceiling and the Last Judgment on one of the walls. This evening enjoy a farewell dinner at a restaurant in the city.

Day 11 - Departure
Farewell to Italy, as you transfer to the airport for a return. Arrive home, your heart and mind filled with many happy memories of Rome, Sorrento, Naples, Venice and Florence.
